Edward Joseph Jasinski, age 60 years old of Edwardsburg, Michigan; husband, brother, uncle, honorable veteran, music lover, and friend to all died peacefully at 4:34 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Ernest M. Raclin House – Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka, Indiana following a brief illness.
He was born on July 4, 1964 in South Bend, Indiana to Edward M. and Rose M. (Bleich) Jasinski. Being born on Independence Day with firework celebrations, some family members bestowed the nickname “Sparky”, which amused them more than it amused Ed. He was graduated from South Bend Clay High School, and soon enlisted in the United States Navy. He reminisced about serving on the USS Sacramento, one of the first Fast Combat Support Ships, delivering ammunition, fuel, and refrigerated goods to ships at sea, while maintaining cruising speed. He was honorably discharged, but continued friendship with many of his fellow sailors.
Back in South Bend, Ed’s natural attribute to meet people who quickly became friends also made him a natural salesman. He was employed by area pawnbrokers, including the former Koachs Kash Station on Edison in Mishawaka, where his specialty was jewelry sales. He moved to Edwardsburg in 2006.
He was raised in the Catholic church, and as an adult, often attended Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. He enjoyed music, especially live performances, and often attended area festivals sponsored by local radio stations. He preferred country music, but also remembered and enjoyed the Polish folk music of his family when he was young. He had a great sense of humor, which was an important part of his winning personality, and “never meeting a stranger”.
On July 1, 2006 at Christ the King he married the former Debbie Ann Thompson, with whom he celebrated last month the eighteenth anniversary of their wedding.
Surviving family includes his wife, Debbie Jasinski; and his siblings, Kenneth (& Diana) Jasinski of New Carlisle, Indiana and Joyce (& Chris) Darling of Surprise, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and a wonderful circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rose Jasinski.
The family and relatives of Edward Jasinski will gather privately at his graveside in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles for a reading of the Catholic Burial Rite, and the Veteran’s Flag Presentation and “Taps” by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Arrangements were completed at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles. Online condolences and memories may be left at:

Sixty years feels far too short, but Ed used his years well, serving his country in the Navy, and serving the financial needs of his community in the pawnshop. More importantly, he enjoyed life, sharing jokes, listening to music, and attending Mass. Most importantly, he loved the people in his life, including his friends, his family, and especially Debbie.
