Dorothy Eleanor Moore, age 85 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 with family gathered around her bed at Lakeland Hospital – Niles following an extended illness.
She was born on August 18, 1931 in Niles, Michigan to Curtis R. and Mable G. (Ross) Johnson. She attended Niles schools, and has lived here most of her life. She worked with her husband, keeping the books for his local businesses including Niles City Cab Company, and the Cherry Street Auto Parts Exchange.
Dorothy enjoyed reading novels, completing crossword puzzles, and spending winters with her husband in Florida at Jensen Beach. She is well remembered by her family for her great cooking skills.
On June 9, 1948 in Niles she married Richard John Moore with whom she celebrated the fifty-sixth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on November 28, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Johnson and sister, Donna Farrell.
Surviving family includes her son, Richard P. (& Pastor Kathy) Moore of Niles; grandchildren Matthew (& Monica) Moore, and Christina (& Dr. Rob) Hruskivich; great-grandchildren Taylor (& Riley) Robson, Alexandria Fuller, Spencer Fuller, Cameron Moore, and Kathryn Moore; a great-great-grandchild, Sawyer Grace Robson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Dorothy Moore will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Whittaker of the Michiana Christian Embassy officiating. Committal will be at a later date at the Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Michiana Christian Embassy Youth Ministry.
