Biography Doris M. Hartman, age 87 years of Niles, Michigan died at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Silverbrook Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on October 16, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Lawrence and Ethel Leona (Kelly) Stoerkel. She was raised in Cleveland, and has lived in Niles since 1958. She was employed in the real estate offices of J.C. Morden and Bill Kelly, and in the accounting office of Dan Gearhart.
Doris was a member of Saint Boniface Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niles. She was also a member of the local chapter of Professional Secretaries International, of the Niles Business and Professional Women, and the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.

In 1945 in Ohio she married Charles Thomas who preceded her in death on July 24, 1963. On May 26, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada she married Sgt. Maj. James Hartman, U.S.M.C., Ret’d. who preceded her in death on September 1, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by a sister, Ethel Ashmun.
Surviving family include her son, Michael C. (& Linda) Thomas of Niles; grandchildren Cassie Thomas and Melissa Thomas; and by her brother, Lawrence J. Stoerkel of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The funeral service for Doris M. Hartman will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with The Reverend John S. Rutowicz of Saint Boniface Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home beginning from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Contributions in memory of Doris Hartman may be made to Saint Boniface Evangelical Lutheran Church.
