Donald Meyers

Donald Eugene Meyers, age 70 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully Saturday evening, November 18, 2017 at his home following an extended illness.

He was born on November 7, 1947 in Niles to William Junior and Gertrude Marie (Grant) Meyers.  He was graduated from Niles High School and entered service in the United States Army.  He saw action on the ground in Vietnam, and was Honorably Discharged as a Veteran of the Vietnam Era.  Back in Niles, he was employed at the French Paper Company, and was a life-long resident of Niles.

Don volunteered with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Rolling Thunder Chapter; and supported the Support Our Troops Festival in Baroda, Michigan, and the Wounded Warrior Project.  He was also a member of the Michiana Cruisers, maintained several classics and hot rods including a 1954 Chevrolet pick-up truck, an AMC Gremlin, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially “up-north” in Michigan.

Surviving family includes his mother, Gertrude Meyers of Niles; his brother, Ronald D. (& Dawn) Meyers of Niles; nieces and nephews, Gabriel (& Chelsea) Meyers, Jessie Meyers, Adria (& Jason) Miller, and Joel Meyers; great nieces and nephews, Mariah, Shahla, Quinten, Maleah, Maddie, Ethan, Andrew, Avery, and Samuel; and a wonderful circle of friends and neighbors including Judy, Bob, and Everardo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Meyers on September 26, 2014.

The funeral service for Don Meyers will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Raymond Fulbright of Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Niles officiating.  The funeral will conclude with Full Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post #51 of Buchanan, Michigan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Contributions in memory of Don may be made to the Support Our Troops Festival, 1161 Lemon Creek Road, Baroda, MI 49101.
