Donald Eden

Donald Charles Eden, 69 resident of Decatur and Niles, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 17, 2023.

Don was born in Niles on January 18, 1954 to the late Charles Clifford and Dorothy Jane (McCormick) Eden.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bryan Eden in 2010.

Don is survived by his children; Derek Eden of St. Petersburg, FL, Kady Eden of Niles and Brea Eden of Chicago, IL.  He is also survived by his former wife, Barbara Eden of Niles.

Don had a deep love for his family. He was always involved with his children and their activities.  Don was always ready for the challenge of coaching them in their many different activities.  He shared with him a passion for competition and sportsmanship as he helped them in football, basketball, softball and golf, just to name a few.  Don’s love of sports carried over to his time as the sports reporter for the Niles Daily Star.

He enjoyed reading and following players’ statistics and tracking when players were recruited or traded. He loved watching his beloved University of Michigan Football and Basketball.  Don also enjoyed golfing and fishing. Given his love of statistics, it’s not surprising that he also enjoyed Sudoku.

A memorial service for Don will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm in Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. Niles. The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Silverbrook Cemetery at a later date.
