Donald A. Brewer

Donald Allen Brewer, age 69 years of Niles, Michigan died Monday, February 5, 2024, peacefully at his home with his family by his side.  

He was born on March 26, 1954, in Niles, Michigan to Donald and Doris Mae (Sandberg) Brewer. He was a lifelong resident and graduated from Niles High School.  Upon graduation, he started his career at A.M. General where he retired and was a member of the UAW local #5. During his retirement he enjoyed working part time at Orchard Hills country club in Buchanan, MI. 

On May 6, 1983, he married Cathy Marie Chenez who preceded him in death on April 6, 2002.  Don is also preceded in death by an infant son Raymond Robert Brewer and his parents, Don and Doris.

Surviving family includes his best bud Simon the cat, son and daughter-in-law Travis and Jenna Brewer of Edwardsburg, daughter Ali Brewer of Niles, and son Justin Brewer of Niles, Granddaughter Destiny Bennett and great-granddaughter Malani Bennett. Don held a sweet spot for his beloved Grandson Griffin “Finn” Brewer who he often greeted with a strawberry “pink milk” during visits. Dons’ sisters, Peggy Sue (Danny) Hamilton of Niles and Cheryl (John) Brewer-Solomon of Navarre, Florida, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and Don’s soulmate of twenty years, Michelle Onderdonk.

Don enjoyed bass fishing on area inland lakes and took part in many tournaments over the years. He loved to camp and travel with his family and visit national and state parks. His children will always remember their special camping trips to the Smokey Mountains and Mackinaw. Don and Michelle looked forward to their annual trips to the Cherry Festival in Traverse City, MI and the covered bridge fest in Park County, IN. 

    He was a true outdoorsman and could often be found mushroom hunting, gardening, attending summer concerts and wine festivals as well as Antiques on the bluff.

Don was an avid fan of all sports but had a special love for the Michigan Wolverines; Go Blue! 

Cooking was one of his passions and he always made sure to deliver daily meals to his daughter and grandpups, Gracie and Charlie.

 The family of Don Brewer will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles.  Contributions in memory of Don may be made to Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, Saint Joseph, Michigan, 49085. His family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care they provided.
