Mr. Dominic Pagano, age 97 years of Niles, Michigan died at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana following a brief illness.
He was born on June 27, 1917 in Niles to Angelo and Patricia (Freddo) Pagano. He was graduated from Niles High School, and has lived here all of his life. After a few years on the railroad, he began a career in the tool & die shop of the former Buchanan, Michigan plant of Clark Equipment Company, retiring in 1979.
Dominic was a member of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles, and the B.P.O. of Niles Elks #1322. He had bowled on area leagues, and enjoyed hunting and fishing expeditions. In retirement he took his family camping throughout the United States with a travel trailer. He also learned woodcarving and watercolor painting, finding himself to have an artistic aptitude, and producing wonderful results. He was a winter resident of McAllen, Texas for fifteen years.
On October 21, 1939 in Michigan City, Indiana he married the former Lois B. Stanton. They celebrated the remarkable Sixty-fifth anniversary of their wedding prior to her death on May 16, 2005. Perhaps equally remarkable was living all 65 years in the same house on North Fifteen Street.
In addition to his wife, Dominic was preceded in death by their daughter, Patricia Kent on December 7, 2014 and their son, Donald R. Pagano on August 27, 2012.
Surviving family includes two sons, Robert L. Pagano of Elkhart, Indiana and Gino D. (& Janice) Pagano of Niles; daughter-in-law, Pat (Mrs. Donald) Pagano of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren Tom, Tina, Dominic, Robert, and Sandy; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The Memorial Mass for Dominic Pagano will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles by The Reverend Thomas King, C.S.C., assisted by Brother Dennis Meyers, C.S.C. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
Contributions in memory of Dominic may be made to Saint Mark Catholic Church. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
