Dessie Pearl Chappel, age 90 years of Niles, Michigan died on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at her home following a brief illness. She was born January 28, 1924 in Bedford, Indiana to William Clone & Viola May (Walls) East. On January 16, 1960 in Bangor, Michigan Dessie married Russell Chappel, who survives.
Dessie was an avid bowler in the Chippewa Bowling senior league division named, “The Golden Gang” for the “Happy-Go-Lucky” team. She also enjoyed genealogy.
Dessie is survived by her husband Russell of Niles, children Steven (& Margie) Chappel of Watervliet, Michigan, Kenneth (& Ruth Thornton) Chappel of Coloma, Michigan, Patricia (& Michael) Herman of Niles, 3 grandsons, Russell Chappel, David Chappel, Thomas Herman, 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Dinges and Stephanie Stacey and 6 great-grandchildren. Dessie is also survived by a brother, Dossie East of Warren Michigan.
She is preceded in death by her son Paul Chappel, sister Edna Smith, brother Edward East and infant brother William Thomas East.
Funeral services for Dessie Pearl Chappel will be held at 2:00p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Rev. Randy Pearman of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Keeler Cemetery, Keeler, Michigan.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Noon until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
