Delphine Lenke Layman, age 89, died at 1:50 am, Thursday, January 3, 2013 at
Riveridge Manor of an extended illness. She
was born January 20, 1923 in Eau Clare, Michigan to
Frank and Charlotte (Sooker) Lenke. She was
Formerly married to Pierre A. 'Pete' Layman who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Cathy, of Bay City, Michigan and two sons, Dale
(& Kathleen)Layman of Joliet, Illinois and Dean Layman of South Bend.
Mrs Layman is also survived by several grandchildren, Pete, Alexis, Amanda and Andrew, great-grandchildren and her brother, Alfred (Marge) Lenke, of SanDiego.
Delphine was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles, a veteran of WW II, US Navy Waves where she served as a radio operator. She enjoyed painting in acrylics, crossword puzzles and watching the game show 'Jeopardy'.
She had been employed for seventeen years at the former Saint Joseph Bank in South Bend, retiring from its successor, Systematics.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 5 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev Carl Bassett officiating. Services will conclude with a Veteran's Flag Presentation and TAPS in the church courtyard by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Committal service will be private Monday at
Silverbrook Cemetery.
