David D. Rachels, Sr.

David D. Rachels, Sr., 92 of Niles, passed away at his home on Friday, March 10, 2023.
David was born to the late Wilbern T. and Bridgie (Casey) Rachels on May 5, 1930 in Greenfield, TN.
He was the youngest of six children, all have preceded him in death.
David honorably served and is a veteran of the U.S. Army after serving 31 months. He retired from
National Standard Company after 31 years of service, working at the 11 th Street Plant.
On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Virginia Batcher in Angola, IN. To this union, six children
were born, Sandy Kay Rachels of Greensboro, NC, Denise Diane Rains of Antioch, TN, David D. Rachels, II
of Niles, Charles T. Rachels of South Bend, John Wayne Rachels of Matthews, NC., Philip Bradley (Tami)
Rachels of Niles as well as 11 Grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren and Great Great-
Grandchildren.
David liked to smoke his cigars. He enjoyed restoring lawn tractors. He was always available to eat a
meal at his favorite restaurant, Prime Table. David was well known for his swapping and haggling. It was
common to hear him on 1390 AM Swap Shop with his latest project to sell. He liked to work in his yard
and enjoyed his good neighbors and friends. More than anything, he loved his family very much and was
very proud of them.
There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at
Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. in Niles. Military Honors will be rendered at 7:00pm.
