Darleen Hemphill Latislaw, age 97 years of Niles, Michigan died at 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at West Woods of Niles.
She was born on April 24, 1915 in Galien, Michigan and has lived in this area all of her life including many years of farming.
Darleen enjoyed music and dancing, tending her flower garden, reading, dining-out and shopping, but her greatest joy was her family. She devoted her entire life to her children, family, and friends, and that love will be missed.
She was married on December 7, 1968 to Ted Latislaw, who preceded her in death on October 28, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lamont Hemphill on March 24, 2009.
Surviving family includes her daughters, Pat (& Bob) Kanous of Statesville, North Carolina, Jerry Lee (& Jim) Kuhl of Mishawaka, Indiana, Nancy (& Les) Hampton of Sturgis, Michigan, Donna (& Bill) Smith of Lake Orion, Michigan, and Nadine (& Howard) Roth of Eau Claire, Michigan; her special daughter-in-law, Patty (Mrs. Lamont) Hemphill of Benton Harbor, Michigan; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Also surviving are Darleen’s sister, Vanessa Wolford of Niles and brothers, Elmer Doyle of Galien, and Wayne Doyle of Mishawaka; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Darleen Hemphill Latislaw will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Cathi Huvaere of Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles officiating. Committal Services will follow at the Galien Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home beginning at Noon on Wednesday. Contributions in memory of Darleen may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 39105.
