Daisy Marie Miller, age 85, of Huntly Road, Niles, Michigan died on Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home following an extended illness. She was born September 30, 1927 in Cassopolis to the late Leonard & Bessie (Seals) Steinman.
She met her future husband when he came to work on her father’s farm.
On July 6, 1946 in Cassopolis she married Milford E. Miller. After their marriage, Daisy and Milford lived in Cassopolis for many years, moving to Niles in 1978.
Milford preceded her in death on February 15, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a half-brother; Pete Long.
Daisy is survived by 2 daughters; Starla J. E. Miller of Niles and Dixie L. Rice of Alabama, a grandson; Sean C. (Sandra) Rice of Alabama, 2 step-great-grandchildren; Heather & Jennifer Tindal of Alabama, 2 sisters; Marjorie Richardson of Niles and Barbara Barter of Cassopolis and a brother; Darcey Steinman of Saint Joseph, Michigan.
Daisy graduated from Cassopolis High School. She worked at Heddon’s in Dowagiac and retired as a saleslady from the Genie Shop in Cassopolis. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, attending every Sunday when she was able.
She and her husband loved to dance, especially square dancing, and to travel. Even after her husband’s death, Daisy still enjoyed to travel whenever she could.
Daisy loved to laugh and have a good time. She was a hard worker, a great cook and a strong-willed person. She spent much time in her flower and vegetable gardens. It was always interesting when you spent time with Daisy. She will be remembered as being always generous and helping those in need.
Funeral services for Daisy Marie Miller will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Cathi Huvaere of the church officiating. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4:00p.m. & 6-8:00p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
Donations in memory of Daisy may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or to Hospice at Home.
