Craig Theodore Cummings, age 61 years of Niles, Michigan died at 1:55 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at his home following a brief illness.
He was born on March 21, 1953 in Niles to Quincy L. and Virginia K. (Ward) Cummings. He was graduated from Niles High School, and has lived here all of his life. He was employed as an Associate at the Niles store of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. since prior to its opening, having helped set-up the original building.
Craig was raised in the Baptist church, and had been active in Cub Scouts in his youth. He enjoyed fishing and camping at local sites, but his greatest joy was his family and especially the children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Quincy Cummings in 2004; and by his fiancée, Patsy Atkins and her son Charlie in 1978.
Surviving family includes his mother, Virginia Cummings of Niles; siblings Bruce Russell Cummings and Diana Lu Cummings, both of Niles and Mark Victor (& Roxanne) Cummings of Adrian, Michigan; nephews and niece, Brian Cummings, Angela Stites, and David Stites; great-nieces and nephews, Courtney Tamlin, Dakota Alcala, Bishop Alcala, Duston Alcala, Ashley Stites, and Austin Baker; great-great nieces and nephews Seleen Sullivan, Jonah Tamlin, Shelby Tamlin, Katherine Wood, and Emmett Alcala.
The funeral service for Craig Cummings will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. William Dudgeon of the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Committal will be at the Riverview Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Contributions in memory of Craig may be made to The Pathfinder Club of Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church.
