Charles R. Chuck Toney, age 72 years of Berrien Center, Michigan died at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Royalton Manor in Saint Joseph, Michigan following an extended illness.
He was born on April 16, 1943 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Richard Leroy and Doris Ruth (Patterson) Toney. He graduated from Berrien Springs High School and has lived in this area all of his life. He worked on the family farm and was also employed at the former Niles plant of Simplicity Pattern Company for several years. He later began driving a truck across the country as an Owner/Operator, eventually driving for the Dallas Mavis Transport Company, always with a preference for Kenworth Trucks.
Chuck was a junior member of the Berrien County Youth Fair. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as landscaping his yard. He is well remembered for his cooking skills, especially his cheesecakes.
Surviving family includes his children, Richard (& Karen Ann) Toney of Austin, Texas, and Karen (& Arthur) Brood of Rudyard, Michigan; grandchildren Rhiannon Toney, Rebecca Brood, and Hannah Brood; Chucks sister, Ruth Susie Gorski of Berrien Center; a niece, Amanda (& Brian) Wilcox and nephew, Stan (& Carrie) Gorski and their children, Krystoph Gorski and Evelyn Gorski; and a close circle of friends including Steve Sayer.
The family of Charles Toney will gather privately at his grave in Union Cemetery, Berrien Center for committal services. Contributions in memory of Chuck Toney may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
