Carolyn Hibbard

Carolyn June Hibbard, age 90 years of Niles, Michigan died at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Hospice House of Holland, Michigan following a brief illness.

She was born on December 8, 1922 in Niles to Allan W. and Weltha A. (Scott) Morehouse. She was graduated from Niles High School in 1941, and has lived here all of her life. She was employed for many years at Simplicity Pattern Company in Niles.

Carolyn was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles, and a member of its Suzanna Wesley Guild. When her children were young, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and volunteered as an adult leader for the Girl Scouts of America. More recently, she has enjoyed cross-stitch, word puzzles, reading, traveling throughout the United States, Europe, and the Mediterranean, and her pet cats.

On December 7, 1946 in Niles she married Robert Warren Hibbard who preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alan Morehouse and sisters, Pauline Gosline, Thelma Allen, and Esther Mantke.

Surviving family includes her daughters, Carolyn Gail Hibbard of Holland, Michigan and Carol Ann (& Mark) Swoyer of Watertown, Massachusetts; a grandson, Eric Ryan Swoyer of San Francisco, California; a brother, Robert (& Audrey) Morehouse of Niles, and several nieces and nephews

The family of Carolyn June Hibbard will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. They will also gather privately on Wednesday at the graveside in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles for committal services with the Rev. Cathi Huvaere of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating.

Contributions in memory of Carolyn may be made to the American Heart Association – Michigan Affiliate, or to The Salvation Army, or to an animal welfare organization of the donor’s choice.
