Beverly Morgan, age 95 years of Niles, Michigan died at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Cass County Medical Care Facility following a brief illness.
She was born on February 16, 1918 in Beaumont, Texas to Benjamin H. and Bertha Ella (Sparks) Fields II, and was graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont. In 1946 she moved with her husband to South Bend, Indiana and in 1954 they purchased a farm on Redfield Road in Milton Township where she lived the rest of her life.
Beverly was a member of the Roberts Avenue Methodist Church in Beaumont (now McCabe Roberts Ave UMC) and has been attending the Community Baptist Church in Edwardsburg, Michigan. She enjoyed working on the farm, especially in her vegetable and flower gardens, and quilting and crochet. She and her husband travelled throughout most of the United States, including Alaska and were members of the Good Sam Club and the Holiday Ramblers Recreational Vehicle Club.
On April 24, 1943 in Beaumont she married Claude E. Morgan who preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, B. Harris Fields III and Warren Fields who died in childhood.
Surviving family includes her daughters, Phyllis (& David) Schrader of Niles and Pamela (& Roger) Bybee of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; grandchildren Ted (& Lindsey) Schrader, Talli (& Carmelo) Pratico, and Trisha Schrader; step-grandson Chris (& Vanessa) Bybee; great-grandchildren Makenna, Keaton, and Clayton Schrader and Isabella Pratico, and step-great-grandchildren Caitlin and Evan Bybee; and Beverly’s sister Elna Rose Davis of Johnson City, Texas and several nephews.
The funeral service for Beverly Morgan will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the historic Smith Chapel in Milton Township with Pastor Jim Wing of First Baptist Church in Niles officiating. Committal will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Beverly Morgan may be made to The Gideons International, or to the Smith’s Chapel Historical Commission.
