Anita J. O’Toole, age 87 years of Niles, Michigan died at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following an extended illness.
She was born on June 8, 1925 in Michigan City, Indiana to Raymond and Martha (Sass) Johnson. As a young child, she moved with her family to Niles, and was graduated from Niles High School. She was employed for many years in the former physician’s office of Gail C. Steiner, D.O.
Anita was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, and gardening. When her children were young, she was a volunteer driver for students of the hearing impaired program at Berrien Springs.
On June 3, 1950 at Saint Mary Catholic Church she married Edward V. O’Toole with whom she celebrated the forty-fifth anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on June 13, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers.
Surviving family includes their children, Martha (& Kim) Oleson of Niles, Kevin (& Joan) O’Toole of Portage, Michigan, Patrick (& Jenny) O’Toole of Buchanan, Michigan, Christopher O’Toole of Constantine, Michigan and Timothy O’Toole of Niles; and thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The memorial mass for Anita O’Toole will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Saint Mary Catholic Church by the Rev. William Melody of Notre Dame, Indiana. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
Contributions in memory of Anita may be made to the Resident Activity Fund at Riveridge Manor, or to Hospice at Home.
