Alvin I. Cavanaugh, 70 of Niles passed away at home with his family by his side.

Alvin was born on August 27, 1949 in Niles to the late Alvin E and Arlene (Regenos) Cavanaugh.

On January 24, 1970 he married Nancy Hempel who survives.

Alvin is survived by his wife of 50 years Nancy and their children; Kristina Curtis, Josh Cavanaugh, Kelly Groves and Karrie-Ann Cavezza all of Niles, grandchildren; Lindsay, A.J., Maddison, Peyton, Tiffany, Haley, Amber, Tyler, Cassidy and David, great grandchildren; Christopher, Joseph, Jaxon and Piper.  He is also survived by his sisters; Patricia (Dale) McCollum of Elkhart and Salvation Army Major Susan (S.A. Maj. Richard) Hartman of Indianapolis.

Alvin was a member of Hope Community Church.  He had honorably served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 26 and the D.A.V.  Alvin enjoyed building furniture, hunting and fishing.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 2:00pm at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home.  Due to current COVID limitations, the funeral service will be able to be viewed on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/halbritterwickensfuneralservices/

He will be most missed by his grandson, A.J. who wrote:

Papa, I would love to grow up to be as great as you, as strong and brave.  I would rather be like you than my dad. I also am proud to call you dad instead.  Be strong old man. I’ve always wanted to tell you, thanks for serving our world.  Love you dad.  God Bless,
