Allen Richard Blackall

Allen Richard Blackall, age 74 years formerly of Niles, Michigan,   passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 in Fort Wayne, Indiana following an extended illness.

He was born on November 20, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois to June (Sorensen) and Matthew Blackall. The family moved to southwest Michigan in 1956 and Allen graduated from Niles Senior High School in 1966. He continued his education studying philosophy and psychology at Eastern Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.  He moved to Fort Wayne in 2002.

  Allen was first employed for many years in banking before taking a position with Ameriprise Financial in Fort Wayne as a Financial Advisor. When not at work, Allen enjoyed German operas with a special interest in the works of Richard Wagner, including “Das Rheingold” and “Parsifal”.  Allen continued to study philosophy and also enjoyed the study of languages. Allen was a car enthusiast. He could talk at length about cars and always kept track of the latest models on the market.

Allen is survived by brothers Matthew (& Donna) Blackall of Palatine, IL, Gary (& Mary Ann) Blackall of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Scott (& Devon) Blackall of Boonsboro, MD, and a sister Gail (Blackall) Barrows of Cypress, TX. He is also survived by his seven nephews – Matthew Blackall, Eric Blackall, Aaron Blackall, Jacob Blackall, Zachary Blackall, Nathan Barrows and Ryan Barrows.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents June and Matthew Blackall, grandparents Gudrun and Christian Sorensen and Etta and Matthew Blackall and brother Jeffery R Blackall.

 The Memorial Service for Allen Blackall will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street in Niles With the Rev. Wayne Shearier officiating.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Allen clearly enjoyed life and people, studying why we think the way that we do, how we interact with each other, how we talk to each other; and even in opera, how relationships fall apart and – sometimes – reconnect.
