Alice Bailey

August 19, 1924 — October 25, 2014

Alice D. Bailey, age 90 years, of Alabaster, Alabama, formerly of Niles, Michigan, died at 11:40 a.m., Saturday October 25, 2014 at the Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama following a recent illness.

Born in South Bend, Indiana on August 19, 1924 to Catherine Grace (Leahy) and Edward Downey, she had lived in Niles and Columbus, Ohio before moving to Alabama in 1993. While living in Niles, she was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church.

Alice retired in 1987 from the J.C. Penney catalog distribution center in Columbus, Ohio where she worked as a secretary. She was also previously employed by the Bendix Corporation from 1942-1958 and Nissan Packing Company from 1968-1972.

She was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Alabama.

On August 21, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana she married Roy Harold Bailey, who preceded her in death on April 14, 2000.

Also preceding her in death were her three sisters: Julia (Downey) Frazier of South Bend, Indiana, Kathleen (Downey) Lewis of San Diego, California and Mary Ann Downey of Columbiana, Alabama.

Alice is survived by a son James E. Bailey and daughter-in-law Catherine Bailey of Alabaster; and by three grandchildren: Clarisse, Brian and Serena Bailey, all of Alabaster, Alabama.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Alice D. Bailey will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Niles by the Rev. Alphonse Savarimuthu, MSFS of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, Indiana.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday October 30, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with recitation of The Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
