Adelia Weaver

Adelia Adeline Weaver, age 98 years of Niles, Michigan died peacefully at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Brentwood Assisted Living in Niles following a brief illness.

She was born on January 30, 1919 in Dowagiac, Michigan to Henry and Matilda (Tabus) Leitke. She graduated in 1937 from Dowagiac High School, and has lived in this area all of her life. She was employed for several years at the former Heddon Company in Dowagiac, hand painting fishing lures.

Adelia was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles and of the Southwestern Michigan Running Club. She volunteered with the Pawating Auxiliary at Lakeland Hospital – Niles for over thirty years, and with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends.

On November 30, 1940 in Dowagiac she married Earl D. Weaver with whom she celebrated the remarkable Seventy-third anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on July 17, 2014. They were also sadly preceded in death by their son, Staff Sergeant Jerry M. Weaver, U. S. Army while serving as a Green Beret during his second tour of duty in Viet Nam on July 16, 1970; and by a daughter, Linda MacKay in 2007, and Adelia’s brother, Rein Leitke.

Surviving family includes their grandchildren, Bryan (& Amy) MacKay, Gregory (& Regina) MacKay, and Todd MacKay, all of Connecticut; great-grandchildren Catherine, David, triplets Matthew, Christopher, and Meghan, and Tyler; Adelia’s sister, Edith Willis of Dowagiac, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Adelia Weaver will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Niles with the Rev. Joseph T. Liss of the church officiating. Committal rites will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Contributions in memory of Adelia Weaver may be made to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home in Niles.
