Samuel E. Kiger, 76 of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, MI after a short illness.
Sam was born on June 27, 1942 in Kokomo, IN to the late Raymond and Beulah(Stewart) Kiger. He is also preceded in death by his son Steven, his sister Virginia Bean and brother John Kiger.
Sam is survived by his wife Judy, his children; Jeanette Laymon, Susan (Dan) Silengo, step-children; Christine (Joe) Riddle, Patti Gleason, Bryon Gleason, grandchildren; Kaitlyn Silengo, James (Kelsey) Laymon, Jason (Alexi Marie Fuller) Laymon, Jenna Laymon, Dylan Gleason, Dustin Whitehead, Rachael (Cody) Collings, Michael Riddle, Ryan Riddle, great grandchildren; Gavin Jerry Laymon, Rowen Dean Laymon and Hunter D. Colling. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Shelley Shaler Strope and by his former wife Dixie Pierson.
Sam was formerly employed by, National Standard, Schneider Trucking and R&L Carriers. He retired in 2005. After retirement, he worked part time for Priority Delivery from 2006-2011.
Sam enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his backyard pond. He volunteered to drive Veterans to the VA Hospital in Battle Creek for 13 years.
Sam was a former member of Gold Wings Road Riders Association Chapter S and the Dowagiac Moose Lodge. He was a life time member of the NRA and was a member of Hope Community Church where he served as an Usher and Greeter.
In keeping with Sam’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Hope Community Church 2390 Lake St. Niles on Friday, July 6, at Noon. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Mission Hills Cemetery.
